Big Give Christmas Challenge and Giving Tuesday
There's a great chance for us to really grow acorns into trees, as it were, with the Big Give's Christmas Challenge 2024!
This is a HUGE event and a chance to double whatever you can donate to a charity of your choosing. Truly Christmas magic!
This double effect runs between 12pm midday on the 3rd December and 12pm midday on the 10th December 2024 UK time.
The Christmas Challenge champions a wide range of charities and their causes. Every donation has the power to be doubled. - charites can make an even greater impact!
Charities have to go through a number of stages to get through to the Christmas Challenge and you can find out about that here
In 2023:
£33 million were raised for 1,077 charities
74% of charities reached their fundraising target
There were 94,141 donations
There are many different categories e.g. Health/Wellbeing, Hospitals/Hospices, Mental Health, Homeless/Refuge, Sports/Recreation, Armed Forces/Emergency Sevices, Disaster Relief, Cancer and Arts/Culture/Heritage to name a few. The “Filter” button will help you find the sort of charity you want to help.

Whether you donate to help save a species such as the godwits with the WWT, or the turtle dove with the RSPB, help rhinos or big cats, red squirrels or otters, there will be a cause we can help. Be it dogs and cats, help pine martens, wildcats, songbirds, elephants, or cheetahs, there will be something we can all do. We can help habitats such as rainforests, rivers, wildlife corridors, oceans, and gardens.
The Reteti Elephant Sanctuary takes in orphaned and abandoned elephant calves in Kenya and the aim is to release them back into the wild herds adjoining Reteti. They are hoping to raise $150,000 on Giving Tuesday. Thanks to a generous donor, donations are being doubled on the 3rd December 2024. Visit the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary here.
The idea of Giving Tuesday is that the day encourages people to do good. In 10 years, it's grown into a huge global movement, encouraging and inspiring people to give, to work with others and to celebrate generosity.
You can volunteer, donate, give your skills, campaign for a cause you care about, organise an event to raise funds, do a litter pick... there are plenty of options. Whatever you do, please do something on the 3rd December 2024!
For instance, you could support Tigers4ever and their campaign, Saving Bandhavgarh's Wild Tigers from Poachers or the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation which is working to protect snow leopards.
